In times of climate change and a more conscious way of living, food production faces ever-growing challenges. In China, people are increasingly valuing an ecologically and economically sustainable lifestyle. Particularly in the highly urbanized People’s Republic, the challenge lies in optimizing the use of arable land to meet the population’s needs for food.
During the two-year project, the TinyFarmHouse was established—a hydroponic farm intended to serve as a functional greenhouse demonstrating modern circular water management in food cultivation. This created a “living” showroom, offering an educational platform for locally and sustainably produced food. The main goal of the TinyFarmHouse project is to transfer knowledge and technology in the field of aquaponics and hydroponics to students in the Urban Planning Department of the Heze Urban Construction Education Development (HUCED) Training Center. The curricula were developed in close collaboration between Bau Bildung Sachsen e.V. and TERRA URBANA. To ensure a successful technology transfer, several teachers were trained as experts to act as multipliers in the Chinese market.
