Further steps toward water reuse and energy efficiency in South Africa in the ecReUse R&D project

10.07.-20.07.2025

An insightful week with numerous fruitful discussions and in-depth insights into the local agricultural structure of the Buffalo City Municipality has come to a successful end.

As part of the ongoing research work, this represents further progress in investigating potential applications for treated wastewater in agricultural production, particularly with regard to hydroponic cultivation. Our goal is to develop transferable operating and business models that enable the safe and efficient use of recycled water and nutrients.

With the commissioning of the sand filter and the construction of the shade hall on the premises of the Nahoon Wastewater Reclamation Works, everything is now ready for the installation of the hydroponic cultivation unit.

Many thanks to all our ecReUse partners and supporters. We are looking forward to the commissioning of our pilot and demonstration plants in October 2025!
